The United Way Women's Leadership Council of the Susquehanna River Region is a multi-county group of women who support their local United Ways at a leadership level (donation of $500 or more.) Together we are focused on early childhood literacy so we can improve the opportunities for children in school and in life.
What is United Way Women’s Leadership Council?
The Women’s Leadership Council is an initiative of United Way Worldwide to mobilize the caring power of women throughout the world. Women’s Leadership Councils advance the common good of their communities by making a personal financial commitment, advocating for issues important to them, and taking a leadership role in the work of United Ways. There are more than 125 Women’s Leadership Councils globally.
What specially designated need is Women’s Leadership Council currently addressing?
In conjunction with National Women’s Leadership Council, the current focus of Women’s Leadership Council of Susquehanna River Region is Early Childhood Literacy. Early Childhood Literacy centers on providing children, from birth to age eight, with enriching instructional and social experiences that enhance their K-12 school experiences and general ability to read, write and communicate effectively throughout their lives.

Who are the women in Women's Leadership Council?
Members of the Women's Leadership Council comprise over 650 women, whose annual giving, solely or with a spouse/partner, to a Regional United Way is $500 or more.
What is the makeup of Women's Leadership Council?
The Women's Leadership Council consists of a General Membership, an Executive Committee and four Council officers. The General Membership meets annually. The Executive Committee consists of two women from each Regional United Way. They are solicited from the General Membership by each Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and/or director of one of the participating United Ways.
